개뿔(Gaeppul Museum & Cafe)

<개뿔>은 이화동 마을 초기에 조성된 청량리 부흥주택, 정릉국민주택과 더불어 대한주택영단(현 LH토지주택공사)이 기획한 최초의 국민주택을 그대로 복원한 건물로, 건물자체가 서울시의 근대문화유산이다. 현재는 와인오프너 박물관 및 카페로 운영 중이다. ‘개뿔’은 우리가 자주 쓰는 표현으로 ‘별 볼일 없고, 하찮은 것’을 의미한다. 하지만 자세히 들여다보면 ‘이야기와 볼거리가 많다’는 것을 역설적으로 표현한 것임을 알 수 있다.

전시관 내부에 들어가면 2층 구조로 이루어진 외관과 격자문 형태의 창살이 인상적이다. 쇳대박물관 최홍규 관장이 세계 각국에서 수집한 약 200여 점의 와인오프너를 형태별로 분류하여 전시하고 있다. 건물 2층에 올라가면 이화동 마을의 전경과 멀리 남산을 비롯하여 서울 도심이 한눈에 조망된다.

또한, 놓치지 말아야할 재미있는 볼거리는 화장실이다. 성곽 길을 만들면서 쌓은 돌담을 끼고 지은 탓에 건물의 한쪽 벽은 돌담으로 대신하였다. 화장실 문을 열자마자 만나게 되는 살아있는 초록 이끼를 머금은 돌담은 이곳의 역사를 말해주는 또 다른 장치가 되는 셈이다.

<Gaeppul> is a preserved building of the very first National Housing devised by Korea Housing Corporation(now LH Land and Housing Corporation) that was constructed in the very beginning of Ihwa-dong village, along  with Cheongnyangni Public Housing and Jeongneung National Housing. The building itself is a Modern Cultural Heritage of Seoul City. It is currently operating as a Wine Opener Museum and Cafe. ‘Gaeppul’ is an everyday word used for something that has no particular value, or is nothing special’. However when you look at it more closely, you can see how the fact that there are many stories and things to see is expressed ironically.

Inside the exhibition hall, it is impressive to see a two-story structure of exterior and cross striped window. There are around 200 different wine openers from all over the world on display, collected by Choi Hongkyu, the Director of Lock Museum. The upper floor holds a breathtaking view of Ihwa-dong village, Namsan and Seoul center afar.

Another interesting spot to see is the bathroom. One wall of the building was replaced by a stone wall because it was built around a stone wall that was built during the construction of the fortress road. And the first view when you step into the bathroom is the historical fortress covered in years and years of moss which works as another tool that reminds the history of this place.
